From 3-7 p.m. on Saturday, October 20, there will be a Day of the Dead celebration to educate and share Mexico’s 3,000 year old tradition and culture. The event is completely free.
Artist Mariana Smith will be hosting a day of fun-filled activities in her studio at Mana Contemporary’s 777 Flagler St Mall in memoriam of loved ones who have passed away. Mariana invites the public to participate in an altar making workshop which will include face painting, making offerings, paper mache masks, skulls, and paper flowers. The space will collectively be turned into an interactive day of the dead installation which will be open to the public until November 5th.
Joining her will be musician Oly who will activate the space by hosting RIP Karaoke in honor of musicians who are no longer with us, inviting the public to remember and bring these artists back to life through performance.
The venue, Mana Contemporary Miami, is an arts center dedicated to fostering artist communities and public engagement with the arts by hosting artist studios, residency programs exhibitions, performances, concerts, educational programming, among much more.
Mariana Smith is a multi-media artist from New York and Mexico. She is also the curator and manager of events and programming for Mexican-American artist Ray Smith’s studio in Brooklyn and Mexico.
