Wynwood Yard is locking their gate.
Forever. Like now. It’s over.
After 3 1/2 years, the Yard is kaput.
They are moving to Doral.
It’s hard to believe the Wynwood Yard has only been open for only 3 1/2 years — it definitely feels like seven — due to the immense amount of programming they produced on any given week. Food, family, healing arts, music, drama, more music, more food and drink, start-up and entrepreneurial meet ups, political meetups, more music, you name it.
No other venue in Wynwood produced more programming than the Wynwood Yard. Also, when the Yard opened, they hit the ground running and never looked back. In addition, that space was curated so amazing, like right now, as its closing, at the same time the place looks finally complete.
Mind you, they withstood and rebuilt a little after a hurricane in 2017 reeked damage.
WYNWOOD YARD HISTORY
Before the Yard opened (maybe 6 or 7 years ago) that lot used to house this terrible drive-in movie, for like a minute. It was the worst hipster idea ever born in Wynwood. Build a drive-in movie theater with vintage cars and show movies (sometimes independent) under the stars with craft beer and kettle corn.
Mind you, O Cinema was right next door. Plus, all their cars were old, not vintage. Just old and rusty and the movie screen was tiny. One could cut themselves and need a rabies shot if attending. So for years after the Lot sort of looked like a junkyard until The Wynwood Yard came in, cleaned it up, and the rest as they say, is history. And now, after only 3 1/2 years, Wynwood Yard is history.
And so is O Cinema. The Electric Pickle is next. The Miami Light Box right after that. And why exactly? Why is Wynwood losing its soul? We know why. The tourists might not know, but we know. To build MORE fucking condo’s we can’t afford.
Ugh.
WYNWOOD YARD CLOSING
Who’s going to fill this void?
Swarm? Fuck no. They have no soul.
Gramps? Maybe. Las Roas’s? To an extent.
Alas, we bid you well, Wynwood Yard. This one is a tough pill to swallow.
