John Tovar Tribute at Bougainvillea on Saturday Night

Local music man John Tovar passed away this past May. The manager and talent scout was a pivotal player in the local music scene. He was involved with just about every guitar based band that broke out of South Florida in the latter part of the 20th century.

Abel Folgar in his obituary in the New Times, described Tovar as, “instrumental in the national success of local outfits, including Nuclear Valdez, the Mavericks, Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids, and the Goods”.

This Saturday, September 16 from 7 -10 pm, friends and loved ones will pay tribute to Tovar at Bougainvillea’s Old Florida Tavern. Bougainvillea’s is located at 7221 SW. 58th Ave. South Miami.

The night is being billed as “The Life of a Music Man-A John Tovar Retrospective and celebration of life”. There will be a  musical performances by artists that were managed by Tovar. Among the confirmed performers are Ryan Bauta and Loui Daniels.

The Saturday night event is free and open to the public.
