Miami Gives Back Bahamas Raises $$$ with Music, Comedy & Burlesque for Hurricane Dorian Victims

Hurricane Dorian turned out to be the most powerful tropical cyclone on record to hit the Bahamas, killing more than 50 people, leaving 70,000+ homeless, and causing more than $7 billion in damages. The outpouring of assistance and donations began almost immediately after the howling winds died down. In just three short days, members of South Florida Burlesque teamed up with Bar Nancy and together they were able to quickly convince some of the area’s best talent to come out and perform in support of the Bahamas.

Thus, the Miami Gives Back Bahamas relief benefit was born. The event will take place at Bar Nancy (2007 SW 8 Street, Miami, FL 33135) this Sunday September 22. Doors will open at 4 p.m., and the first band takes the stage at 5, kicking off an afternoon an evening of back to back stellar entertainment.

“It really does take a village,” said Bar Nancy co-owner Lizz Dominguez. “We are planning one hell of a night filled with comedy, live music, burlesque, drag, DJs, and more.” In lieu of a cover, Bar Nancy is asking attendees to bring donation items like water, canned food, toiletries, and first aid supplies. This is part of an ongoing mission sponsored by Miami-Dade Free Masons, who have secured channels to get these much-needed items to the Bahamas.

Musicians scheduled to appear are: Birdman’s Clambake, Alexa Lash, Nature’s Fury, The Collektives, Brothers of Others, and Dave Damage. Comedians on the bill include Freddy Stebbins, Hanz Rivero, Chris Silio, Danny Miami Reyes, and Pauly McPaulerson. Attendees can expect to see burlesque performances by Aurora Natrix, Erika Moon, Jezebelle Red, Juanita Revolucion, Ruby Tesla, and Sofia Luna, and drag performances by Dasha Sweetwaters and Karla Croqueta. DJs Dino, Lamebot, and Ray Milian will spin, and food will be prepared and sold by Monsieur Poutine.

Half of all proceeds will be donated to the All Hands & Hearts-Smart Response organization, and Tito’s Vodka will be matching the donation. There will be raffles of items sponsored by local businesses such as House of Mages, Revelry Lake Worth, Saber Craft, and others. At press time, there was still time to donate goods/services for this raffle – please message [email protected] ASAP.

Dominguez added: “Our entertainers will also be collecting tips throughout the night to be donated as well. So reach into your hearts and wallets and let’s make some magic happen together.” Additional event sponsors include Moon River Cabaret, Agave de Cortez, Monkey Shoulder, Whistle Pig, Coconut Cartel, Grand Marnier, Q Mixers, Stolen Rum, Keel Vodka, Few Spirits, Plymouth Gin, Espolon, and Longbranch.
