South Florida Writers Association announced $2,000 will be available to members in cash grants for the purpose of publishing and marketing their writing. You must be a member of the South Florida Writers Association to win. You can join them here. Winners of the grants will will be selected at the December 2023 and June 2024 meetings.
Below are the rules and procedures to win one of the South Florida Writers Association grants.
1. Eligibility: Applicant must be a Member of the South Florida Writers Association at the time of drawing/for the period between July 1, 2023 until June 30, 2024.
2. For the Book Publishing Grant: Applicants must submit the application form with a brief description of the book project planned with the target date of publication (within 1 year of receiving the assistance). Printed books, e-books, chapbooks, audio books of all genres are acceptable.
3. For the Writer or Book Marketing Grant: Applicant must submit the application form with a brief description of the marketing activity or activities that the grant will be used for, e. g. professional headshot of writer, photographs of book cover/s, website design/maintenance/hosting, advertisement, conference or book fair fees, publicity, podcast, book trailer or video production. Open to freelance writers, journalists, bloggers, authors, playwrights, etc.

5. There will be two (2) drawings for two (2) Cash Grants ($500 for book publishing category and $500 for marketing category per drawing): Once at the December 2023 meeting and another at the June 2024 meeting. That means $1,000 total cash prizes per drawing.
6. Previous winners of the grants of the recent 2 years (June 2022 and June 2023) will not be eligible, in order to provide opportunity for other members.
7. Winners of the grants selected at the December 2023 meeting will not be eligible for the June 2024 grants drawing.
8. Members who applied for the grants between August – December 2023 (deadline to be announced) and did not win at the December 2023 drawing will be automatically included in the June 2024 drawing. Those who applied after the deadline for the December 2023 drawing will be considered as applications for the June 2024 drawing.
